Here’s a little bit about Kay:

Breaking Free from Food Addiction with Kay Sheppard

Kay Sheppard, LMHC

Food addiction started for me at an early age. About the same time that I went on my first weight loss diet at age 15, I added nicotine to the mix. Eventually, I used alcohol as well. Blessedly, my recovery started at a fairly young age. In my twenties, I found a new way of life starting with abstinence from alcohol, then refined foods, followed by cessation of nicotine use.In recovery, I was able to earn a Master’s Degree in Counseling, and become a licensed mental health counselor. While working with other food addicts in my professional life, I was encouraged to write Food Addiction: The Body Knows. When I sent the manuscript to the publisher, I prayed that the book would help food addicts, their families and the therapists who work with them. I believe that prayer has been answered. Some years later, I wrote From the First Bite and then Food Addiction: Healing Day by Day with the prayer that they will help food addicts find and keep recovery.

The internet has given us a new world-wide fellowship. Email, chat rooms, Facebook and websites have given our food addiction community the opportunity to connect with each other offering support, good information and encouragement. We now have a global community with members in all of the US States, Europe, Australia, Canada, South America, Russia and Africa. We have lots of opportunities for service which is our privilege and responsibility.

For you who are using this program to get started or restarted, please stay in touch, ask anything you wish to ask, and understand that we are here to help you put recovery first.

Are you wondering how to start (or restart) your own journey of abstinence? Do you have questions about the food plan, what to eat, how much and what not to eat?
You have arrived at the right place – we are here to help and support you.

What is Food Addiction?

Food addiction is characterized by obsession with food, obsession with weight and loss of control over the amount of food eaten. It involves the compulsive pursuit of a mood change by engaging repeatedly in episodes of binge eating despite adverse consequences.

How do we achieve Abstinence?

Abstinence is achieved by the elimination of compulsive eating, volume eating, under eating, addictive eating, and all of the substances that will trigger an addictive response.

What is Kay Sheppard’s Food Plan?

Kay Sheppard’s Food Plan is a weighed and measured plan which eliminates sugar, flour, wheat, highly refined carbohydrate foods, high-fat foods, volume, and personal trigger foods.

The Goals of Kay Sheppard’s Food plan:

  • Eliminate the addictive substances.
  • Balance protein and carbohydrate.
  • Manage volume.
  • Provide good nutrition.
  • Regular distribution of nutrients throughout the day to maintain a level of metabolism
